Inheritance Spork Chapter 31: The Tolling of the Bell

Welcome to the fourth bracket, staring with Chapter 31: The Tolling of the Bell!

Thankfully, it’s short )
(You’d think something interesting and dramatic would happen in a chapter called “The Tolling of the Bell.” A funeral, a wedding, the end of an era.)

(You’d be wrong.)

Inheritance Spork, Chapter Forty: Questions Unanswered

Hi. I’m back with the next chapter in the community spork of Inheritance. Sorry to be away so long; and I figure I ought to give a little explanation: after my last misadventure a few months ago, I decided I needed to quiet down and stop typing my opinions on posts, mainly because I tend to say things to cause ill-feeling about thirty-percent of the time. Sorry about that.

And sorry that I’m late at posting this spork--especially since I was the one that said people ought to have them written up beforehand!

Why can I never write a short, concise spork? )

Inheritance Spork: Chapter Thirty Two: Black-Shrike-Thorn-Cave
Sorry this is late! I have been wracking my brains as to how to best rip this chapter to shreds and figured as this is the third Saphira-perspective chapter in the Inheritance series (the first two being in Brisingr) it needed a little intro and explanation. Plus, I actually didn't read Brisingr myself so I was wanting to go through and pick apart all of the dragon-specific vocab which just fails on so many levels - continuity being the most apparent fail.

For a bit of light reading (read: reference material) I've gone through painstakingly and listed all the dragon-specific vocab in a separate text file which I've put on my writing/sporking wikispace site HERE. This I'll probably refer back to at times.

Otherwise, let's get into the chapter!

Inheritance Spork: Chapter Thirty-Four: AND THE WALLS FELL...

Here we are with chapter 34, also known as "And the Walls Fell..." ...Sure it sounds cool, but I would much prefer it if there had been actual walls falling in this chapter... and that ellipsis for DRAMAH... is bloody annoying!

Last time, the Varden was attacking Dras-Leona, and Eragon, Arya, Angela and Solembum (aka Kitty) were going to open the gate form the inside. Blödhgarm (aka Fabio) - disguised as Eragon - & Saphira were fighting Murtagh & Thorn.

Here we go, then. (Bolding is quotes. [...] is where I cut out unimportant parts of the quotes.)
a pox on contrived drama! )

Inheritance Spork, Chapter 35: By the Banks of Lake Leona

Chapter Thirty-Five - By the Banks of Lake Leona
And at long last, we get to this chapter, where Eragon truly reveals himself to be an utterly despicable human being.

Official Inheritance Spork Chapter 36: The Word of a Rider

So Eragon and Arya dash outside because he thought he heard a dragon (not Saphira) roar. It would've been great if he was just imagining or mishearing something and the last chapter's cliffhanger led to an anticlimatic funny moment of !drunkEragon making a fool of himself.

Inheritance Spork: Chapter Thirty Seven: Conclave of Kings

Firstly - so sorry! I had no idea my name was up on this one. (Note to self: check the signup sheet more often) Got a message from Torylltales this afternoon with a friendly reminder. Thanks for everyone's patience!

Secondly, a little anecdote. Once I had the reminder, I grabbed the book at home and found the chapter whilst my Dad was visiting. When he was leaving he happened to spy upon the book lying open.

"Conclave of Kings, huh?" he asked.

"Yeah, I'm going to spork it [and then realised Dad probably has no idea what 'spork' means, besides the eating implement] . . . well, you know that internet writing group I'm in? We're going through chapter by chapter and pointing out everything that's wrong with it. This is the chapter I get to do."

Dad peered closer and pointed at a few places on the first two pages of the chapter. "This syntax is terrible."

"Yep."

"The magician quivered, startled, and the distraction allowed the elves to slip past his defenses." Dad quoted. "That's too ambiguous, because 'startled' is both a verb and an adjective."

"Yep."

~~~~~~~~~~~
Anyway, let's actually spork the chapter from its beginning!
Inheritance Spork, Chapter 38: A Maze Without End
Hi! Since 7th_y said anyone could take over the spork of chapter 38, A Maze Without End (see http://antishurtugal.livejournal.com/799104.html), I’m going to take a shot at it. I’m really sorry if anyone else had already scheduled for it (although I checked the sign-up sheet at http://antishurtugal.livejournal.com/726818.html and no one had second dibs). If there’s really a problem with me doing this, message me and I’ll delete the post.
So, Eragon just was a part of a “conclave of kings” where while the Varden has resolved to continue to Mordor—I mean Urubaen (sorry—just saw Return of the King with my sister last night, and it was awesome!) , they know that they’re kind of screwed. (Remember, Nasuada is gone! OH NOES!)
Inheritance Spork, Chapter 39: Fragments, Half-Seen and Indisctinct
I’m stepping in for the spork again (see http://antishurtugal.livejournal.com/803724.html). Yay! As always, if there’s a problem, notify me and I’ll delete the post. Sorry if some of it is formatted badly.
(Why do I always use too big of a font first?)
When we last left off, Eragon just realized that the Vault of Souls plot device introduced in Brick 1 could be helpful for him, since Nasuada’s been captured and all is not well. So he calls Solembum the werecat, annnnnnnnnnd… that’s where this chapter, Fragments, Half-Seen and Indistinct, starts.
Important yet boring plot revelations! )
